Landmark Year for FCC Environment

From national awards to innovative health and safety improvements, FCC Environment’s most recent Sustainability Report shows 2019 as a landmark year.
Head of External Affairs Julie Fourcade said: “We have so much to be proud of over the last year – our 2019 report is a real testament to the commitment and innovative approach of our team. It shows the full extent of our drive to scrutinize every area of our business and bring about positive change in the communities we work in.”
FCC Environment manages some 100 contracts across 60 local authorities. In 2019, two of its energy from waste plants processed a landmark million tonnes, while another, Millerhill Recycling and Energy Recovery Centre, opened its doors. FCC also became the first UK waste management company to achieve certification to the latest versions of four globally recognized standards, for Quality, Environmental Management, Energy Management, and Health and Safety.
Health and Safety was a major focus, which built on previous work to develop a more mature safety culture across the business. At the same time, FCC has invested in community projects and historic sites such as Bletchley Park, funded beehives and engaged with schools to promote the environment.
Four major new contracts have expanded the business in Suffolk, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Scotland. Typically, these have included added value in the form of additional reuse or community projects. Crews, individuals and sites have also excelled. They been rewarded, both through FCC’s recognition scheme and further afield, winning national awards.
Julie concluded: “Our Sustainability Report 2019 covers all areas of the business – from carbon emissions to apprenticeships. It is a fantastic calling card for our company, which really illustrates the extent of our operation, our ambition and our commitment.”
