Working Model Turbine goes down a treat at Greatmoor Visitor Centre

Since first opening its doors for visits in 2016, the Greatmoor Energy from Waste plant has welcomed nearly 10,000 visitors, of whom nearly a third are under 16, visiting with their schools or cub and scout groups to find out where Buckinghamshire’s non-recyclable waste goes.
During the visit they are given a tour of the facility, when they get to see the grab cranes, grate and condenser fans up close and personal, all of which are very exciting to witness.
However, the role of the boiler and turbine are harder to explain and experience.
So Greatmoor commissioned a working turbine demonstration model, which was unveiled during a visit from Radnage CE Primary School.
The model is powered by air to replicate the high pressure steam, and features a working turbine and generator, producing enough electricity to power the lights in a model house.
When the turbine was turned on, and the house lit up, it elicited squeals of delight from the visitors.
