Greatmoor visits Little Chalfont WI
25/07/2017
On the evening of 11th July Little Chalfont WI got a little more than they bargained for.
They had asked Chiltern DC to attend their meeting, to give a talk about recycling, and what they got were not one, but three speakers – Callum Lynam and Beth Kheng, the two Chiltern DC Waste Project Officers and Jez Elkin, Greatmoor’s Education Manager.
The audience of 34 ladies learned about what happens to their recycling, watching videos about how mixed recycling is sorted at an MRF (Materials Recovery Facility) and how anaerobic digestion turns food waste into compost, biogas and electricity.
This was followed by an explanation of how their non-recyclables no longer go to landfill, but are now turned into electricity at Greatmoor.
This was a surprise for many of them, and several members of the audience expressed an interest in visiting Greatmoor to see it with their own eyes.
The evening ended with a lively questions and answers session, followed by tea, and most importantly cake, which all three speakers were extremely grateful for.
We look forward to welcoming Little Chalfont WI to Greatmoor later on in the year.
Waste education from Greatmoor is not limited to visits to the facility. Education staff can visit your group or school, giving talks and running activities.
